### Sessions

Each instance of the [Live](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/client/live.md) client manages a single Raw API session.
Each session is associated with one [dataset](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/basics/datasets.md).

A session will begin streaming when [Live.start](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/client/start.md) is called.
A session can be stopped gracefully with [Live.stop](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/client/stop.md) or forcefully with [Live.terminate](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/client/terminate.md).

A session can also be stopped by specifying a timeout with [Live.block_for_close](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/client/block-for-close.md) for synchronous applications and [Live.wait_for_close](https://databento.com/docs/api-live/client/wait-for-close.md) for asynchronous applications.
