Today, we're introducing our director of business development (BD), Eric Duncan!

Eric didn't stumble into the financial markets industry by chance. It's been a long-standing interest fueled by books like The Man Who Solved the Market and Market Wizards. With a desire for immediate impact, Eric integrated his passion for financial markets with his career in enterprise sales, placing himself in the vibrant landscape of startup culture.

"I was able to unite my interest in startup environments and financial market data when I accepted the role of Head of Sales at Polygon.io. After some great success with Polygon and learning a ton along the way, the opportunity with Databento arose, allowing me to learn from individuals with extensive experience in the marketplace. "

Successfully leading an enterprise sales team for larger organizations in his early career, Eric now channels his expertise into enhancing the customer experience as Databento's director of BD, sharing the highlights of his role:

"One of the best aspects of my role is its dynamic nature. My days are focused on ensuring current customers are well taken care of, reaching out to potential clients, and finding ways to elevate their experience. In customer meetings, I explore how experts plan to utilize our data, and during product meetings, we continually iterate to enhance our service for customers and the broader market, uncovering fresh projects and opportunities every day."

Coming from a diverse background of experiences, Eric shares what he finds unique about our company's culture:

"The continual support and multi-departmental resources are amazing. Seeing a team that is so diverse in skillsets and roles all aimed towards a common goal is a force multiplier. Regardless of role, tenure, or responsibility, if someone can help get something done, they are willing to do so. This is rare to find across an entire department, let alone across an entire company."

Eric is a lifelong learner who approaches new and familiar topics with curiosity. He notes that ongoing learning and improvement are what he's most proud of in his career.

"The more that I learn, the more value I can provide to my team and our customers. Learning the world of market data requires an abundance of knowledge in both development and finance, and each day provides a new lesson."

When asked who inspires him at Databento, Eric highlighted the wealth of experiences within our entire team, expressing his admiration for both our CEO and CTO.

"I can't possibly pick any one person. So many people here have such a wealth of experience in their given field! Luca and Christina have many accomplishments, but none larger than the team they have built here at Databento."

Working in a fully remote environment, Eric enjoys stepping away from his computer and embracing the outdoors during his downtime—capturing nature's beauty through photography, golfing, hiking, or enjoying boat trips with his family and dogs. Indoors, he's either crafting through woodworking, playing the guitar, or spending time with family.
