The prospect of joining a startup can make many people feel uncertain and cautious—it can be unsettling not to know exactly what to expect from a job. This wasn’t the case with Naomi Danielle, Databento Senior Frontend Engineer. When asked what led her to Databento, she shared, "After spending 5 years working on the same products, I was looking for a fresh start. Databento was at the perfect point in its growth to dive in and lend a hand."
The finance industry is typically known for its high-pressure environments and competitive nature. Having worked in this industry for several years, she mentions that, "In an industry that can be quite calculating and cutthroat, Databento’s culture is transparent, authentic and warm. I think this is where our success comes from. Everyone here cares, both about the product and the journey building it."
Being a part of a growing team filled with talented and humble people, it’s easy to feel inspired by those surrounding you. Naomi added, "I honestly get a lot of energy from our cofounders, Christina and Luca. They both work tirelessly not just to grow the company and provide direction, but also to bring the rest of us into critical discussions and make sure everyone feels informed and enabled, top to bottom. They really know how to draw out and magnify talents."
Naomi Danielle has had some impressive feats prior to joining Databento. One of her proudest moments in her career involves, “[resurrecting] a derelict platform using contemporary technologies, then [building] an entire team around expanding that into new asset classes and customer bases.” “I’m super proud of the folks I hired and mentored over there, and hope to achieve similar successes helping Databento scale.”
Here at Databento, work-life balance is at the forefront. We’ve seen how hard-working Naomi Danielle is, but who is she outside of work? When asked about any passion projects she’s working on she mentioned, "This is nerdy as heck, but…pixel art! The kind you see in retro and indie video games. A lot of what I make are one-off illustrations, but I also hope to one day complete a single-player roleplaying game. What can I say—I’m a 90’s kid! "
